Movement Against Drug Abuse (MADA)

Movement Against Drug Abuse (MADA) was established in 1995 in Peshawar. The organization arranged first seminar in Deans Hotel Peshawar in May 1996. The Seminar was attended by the social workers from all over the country.

In 1997 MADA Shifted its Head Quarter to the historical city of Pakistan that is Lahore. In May 1997 MADA arranged its first public meeting at village Bhamman (Jallo) adjucant to Pakistan India Border. The Public Meeting was attended by the villagers of Bhamman and nearby villages. In Pakistan normally public meetings are held on religious and political issues but MADA public meeting was on the issue of drugs. In this public meeting the late Muhammad Rafi Numberdar of the area announced that nobody in his villages will sell or use heroine.

In December 1997 MADA arranged its first Seminar in Lahore in Ambassador Hotel Lahore. About 300 participants attended the seminar concerning different walks of life. The seminar was attended by Parliamentarians and Mr. Graham Brian Diplomat of Australian High Commission Islamabad. The seminar was covered by print and electronic media. Pakistani newspaper Jung having largest circulation published the drug issue in its editorial referring to speech of Australian Diplomats in MADA Seminar. MADA observes 26th June as International Day of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Since 1998 MADA arranged Seminars, Conferences and walks on these days. In order to create awareness among the public, on 26th June 1999 MADA arranged walk in seven cities in the country that is Peshawar, Abbotabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Okara, Pattoki & Sukkhar.

MADA also arranges Treatment Camps where treatment is extended to the drug patients. In 2003 MADA started creating awareness against AIDS disease. The organization arranged its first conference on the issue of AIDS on December 1, 2003 at Pearl Continental Hotel Lahore. For the success of the Seminar messages of success were received from many European Ambassadors based in Islamabad and also from various Social Organizations from USA. Miss Penny Wells President of U.S organization SADD sent message of success for the conference.

During earthquake of 2005 in Azad Kashmir, MADA extended help to the effectees. During previous flood in 2010 the organization provided financial support to the victims.

MADA representatives attended and took an active part in various International Conferences held in Boston (USA), Los Angeles (USA), Washington DC (USA), London (UK) and Stockholm (Sweden) as well as in Pakistan.

Now the MADA has planned to construct homes for the flood effectees and to provide financial support to enable them to get their shelters. In view of MADA activities MADA needs support of Donor Agencies to complete its various welfare projects and to make our world Drug Free and to provide awareness against AIDS Disease.
